This recipe involves the use of the whole grain oats that have been cut and hence the name. This bowl of breakfast does not contain any sugars and is still very hearty, satisfying and healthy. It has a very chewy, nutty texture which is accentuated by the addition of nuts and seeds.
Ingredients:
Serves 1-2
- 2 serving spoon of steel cut oats
- ½ cup Milk/Almond milk
- Water – (approx. 2cups)
- 5-10 Soaked almonds – cut into pieces
- 1-2 Soaked walnut– broken into pieces
- 1 Fig – cut into pieces with a knife/scissor
- 1-2 tsp.pumpkin seeds
- 1-2 tsp.sunflower seeds
- 1-2 tsp.Flax seeds
- 1 tsp jaggery powder/stevia (as per your taste)
Method:
- In a pressure cooker boil the steel cut oats in water. Give it a whistle.
- Let it simmer for 3-4 mins on low flame.
- Once done, add the milk to the hot steamed oats.
- When still hot, add the walnuts, almonds, fig and seeds.
- The fig provides the sweetness but in case one wants it sweeter, then can add jaggery or stevia to the porridge.
- Serve hot.
